Event Description
From our Grantee Partner, Y-WE:

I’m thrilled to share that our very own Reagan Jackson will take center stage at Town Hall Seattle on Saturday, June 1 at 7:30pm! Featuring a discussion about her newly launched book and the ever-changing landscape of our city, Reagan will be accompanied by poet and educator Quenton Baker and writer, artist, and professor Dr. Bettina Judd.

This is an opportunity for the Y-WE community to show up and get inspired, so get tickets today and join us! We also have a limited number of free tickets for Y-WE youth and alums (to claim yours, email stacey@y-we.org). View program details for more info.

Earlier this year, Reagan's book, Still True: The Evolution of an Unexpected Journalist, was published by Hinton Publishing, a new local BIPOC owned press. Still True is part memoir, part collection of essays and articles that chronicle Reagan’s journey into the world of journalism. (Buy the book!) In her own words:

“Through my work I have told my truths and the truth of my community. I think of it as a time capsule, snapshots of Seattle, Rainier Beach, my life, my work, and the broader world. I am so excited to share this work with the youth of Y-WE as an opportunity for them to see themselves through my journey because I want to normalize not having to fit into a check box to still do the work you feel called to do. I may have been an unexpected journalist, but our youth will define for themselves their own expectations of who they can be and what that will look like.”

I’m deeply gratified to see my friend and Co-ED’s important work getting the recognition it deserves. But don’t just take it from me: You can read the rave reviews on Still True in the Seattle TimesKirkus Reviews, and South Seattle Emerald or delight in this interview with Reagan on King 5 New Day Northwest
